Ottawa - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaws Inc. are warning the public not to consume certain pear juices for toddlers because these products may be contaminated with arsenic.
Queen's Park - Ontario has revoked the teaching privileges of eight more driving schools, including two Brampton schools, after Ministry of Transportation audits revealed the schools were issuing Beginner Driver Education certificates to student drivers who had not completed the training.
Mississauga - The Government of Canada is providing funding to help newcomers settle in the Peel region totalling $830,000. The money will go towards the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group's ongoing work to develop a coordinated strategy for the integration of newcomers in Peel Region.
Mississauga - Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced on December 31, 2007 that starting January 1, 2008 the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will fall by another percentage point. As a result, from now on Canadians will pay only five per cent (5%) GST.
Ontario - The McGuinty government has launched the fourth year of its provincial gas tax program. The program provides two cents of the tax revenues from every litre of gasoline sold in Ontario to municipalities for public transit. Brampton to receive $6,843,401.
