» Stanley Mills students bike to conquer cancer

Peel - Stanley Mills Public School will host a Mini Ride to Conquer Cancer on May 4 to raise money for cancer treatment research at Princess Margaret Hospital. After the school day, students from kindergarten to grade 5 will ride their bikes around the school’s perimeter and collect donations for the cause.

Peel - Peel District School Board schools will host hundreds of special activities and events to celebrate Education Week 2012 from April 16 to 27. On April 23, the board will host Showcase of Excellence, an evening to honour Award of Excellence recipients for their outstanding contributions to public education.

Peel - Students from five Peel District School Board secondary schools will perform at the Central Regional Showcase from April 18 to 21 as part of the 66th annual Sears Ontario Drama Festival. This showcase highlights a total of 11 outstanding productions from across Peel region which will take place at the Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga.

Peel - Peel District School Board students in grades 4 to 8 will demonstrate their presentation and speaking abilities at Excellence in Eloquence, the Peel board's annual public speaking challenge. The intermediate finals will take place at Sir William Gage Middle School on April 11 and the junior finals will follow on April 12 at Oscar Peterson Public School.

The discussion session is part of a youth event series in which young people in Canada share ideas that potentially become part of the World Congress of Information Technologies’ (WCIT) Global Digital Society Action Plan.

Peel - Secondary school students across the Peel District School Board will participate in the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots discussion at David Suzuki Secondary School on March 23. Dr. Jane Goodall will speak about her ground-breaking work with chimpanzees, raise awareness about social and environmental issues and encourage students to make a difference in their communities and the world. Following the dialogue, students will participate in a question and answer session. More than 1,000 students will attend the event, and additional students across Peel will view a live stream from their classroom.

Peel - Parents will become students for a day at the 11th annual Make a difference in literacy and beyond parent conference on March 24 at Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga. This free learning event is presented by the Peel District School Board and MDG Computers. The event features a keynote presentation on raising confident and motivated children by Monique Howat, youth motivator, plus more than 50 workshops designed to provide parents with tips and resources to help their children succeed in school.

Peel - One hundred and twenty grade 11 and 12 law students, representing the Peel and Dufferin-Peel Catholic district school boards and one independent school, will grapple with concepts of law and justice during the 10th annual Peel Mock Trial Tournament on March 1 and 9 at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton.
