Peel - The Peel District School Board won 17 international awards for
communications excellence during the 2011-12 school year. The revamped Welcome to Kindergarten package and the School Food Action Coalition project, which focuses on local food procurement and awareness, are among the projects to be recognized.
Peel - Approximately 1, 200 students will return to school on July 30, when Ray
Lawson and Roberta Bondar public schools open their doors for the 2012-
13 school year. Ray Lawson Public School is the newest balanced
calendar school in Peel and opened this year as a kindergarten to grade 5
school with 275 students. Balanced calendar schools operate year-round
by spreading traditional vacation time throughout the year.
Peel - Three Peel District School Board schools have been recognized with the Premier’s Safe Schools Award. Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School, Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School and Peel Alternative School are among 10 schools selected to receive the award from across Ontario.
Peel - Over 1,800 grade 3 and 4 students from 14 Peel District School Board
schools will learn about safe bike-riding practices through Helmets on Kids,
a program that aims to prevent brain injuries through education. The
official launch of this year’s program will take place on June 5 at
Springfield Public School.
Peel - Nearly 100 grade 1 to 4 students from five Peel District School Board schools will take part in the Junior First LEGO League Showcase
on May 28 at the HJA Brown Education Centre. The program features a
real-world challenge to be solved by research, critical thinking and
imagination.
Peel - The Peel District School Board’s Spotlight on Asian Heritage events on
May 7 and 8 will showcase the contributions of Asian Canadians to
Canada’s rich past.
Peel - Stanley Mills Public School will host a Mini Ride to Conquer Cancer on May 4 to raise money for cancer treatment research at Princess Margaret Hospital. After the school day, students from kindergarten to grade 5 will ride their bikes around the school’s perimeter and collect donations for the cause.
Peel - Peel District School Board schools will host hundreds of special activities and events to celebrate Education Week 2012 from April 16 to 27. On April 23, the board will host Showcase of Excellence, an evening to honour Award of Excellence recipients for their outstanding contributions to public education.
Peel - Students from five Peel District School Board secondary schools will perform at the Central Regional Showcase from April 18 to 21 as part of the 66th annual Sears Ontario Drama Festival. This showcase highlights a total of 11 outstanding productions from across Peel region which will take place at the Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga.
Peel - Peel District School Board students in grades 4 to 8 will demonstrate their presentation and speaking abilities at Excellence in Eloquence, the Peel board's annual public speaking challenge. The intermediate finals will take place at Sir William Gage Middle School on April 11 and the junior finals will follow on April 12 at Oscar Peterson Public School.
