Brampton - Every now and then we all experience what can only be referred to as a life changing event. Recently into my life came one of those life changing events. The actual event I will not go into. Suffice it to say it caused me to think back over a number of years and advice given to me.
Brampton - "If there is one wish I could have for this graduating class it would be that each of you fall flat on your face in the next year". This is a quote from the guest speaker at my daughter's high school graduation over 20 years ago. The profound nature and meaning behind it has kept it in my mind and thoughts ever since.
Brampton - For the majority of employees and management, the first full day back to work in 2010 was January 4th. For many this was a mini cultural shock. Over the past couple of weeks working days have been a little different for almost everyone.
Brampton - Henry Ford is purported to have offered $25,000 to anyone who could show him how to save a bolt on a car.Considering wages when Henry made that offer, the amount was an astronomical sum.Discount the dollar figure for a minute and let's look at the philosophy behind the offer.
Brampton - For a number of years my role in the corporate world was to prepare the annual expense budget for seven data processing centres across Canada. Of course this was definitely not a one person job. In fact, my main task was to evaluate the budget from each centre then prepare a consolidated version for approval. A simple task one might say. Maybe, in some instances.
Brampton - Recently received a call asking if I would mind being the guest speaker at a networking group meeting in two days time. Well, as one not above a bit of shameless self promotion of course I said yes.
Brampton - Recently attended a function where an associate mentioned he had been asked to do some consulting. Clearly this was something he could do quite easily having been a partner in a successful business for a number of years before going into semi-retirement. However, the question was one of how much to charge for this service.
Brampton - You are retired, perhaps a bit earlier than you expected. This you see as a blessing and a curse. First, it is great not to have to get up every day and go to that "job", right? However, this is not when you planned on retiring. As a result you now find yourself with extra time but not always extra money. Not an uncommon situation in today's economic environment of downsizing and right sizing.
Brampton - We all know that employee input and customer input is information gold to our organizations. The question we need to ask ourselves is, when we mine the gold, how do we process it, how do we acknowledge the submitter.
Some time back I planted two wegilia plants in the side garden of my home. One plant is pink and the other plant is red. Both were exactly the same size plant, purchased from the same nursery on the same day. Both were planted, watered and fertilized exactly the same.
