» Youth Volunteers Recognized for Changing the World

Brampton – Loud cheers and applause erupted through the halls at the location of Volunteer MBC’s Brampton Centre on Monday, July 23, 2012 as youth were recognized for their exemplary efforts during the 2012 ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. Four youth and the Brampton Mayor’s Youth Team were recognized and thanked in the presence of their peers, family members and staff of the volunteer centre.

Brampton – The Caledon community is invited to drop by and visit Volunteer MBC, the local volunteer centre, at the Caledon Healthy Living Show. The show will be held this Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Caledon East Community Complex, 6215 Old Church Road, Caledon East from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The centre will be there to promote local volunteer opportunities and to provide information about how to access their on-line volunteer opportunity database.
» Opportunities for Older Adults to Learn About Volunteering

Brampton - Since the beginning of this year, Volunteer MBC has been providing a number of opportunities for older adults, 55 years and older, to learn about volunteering in the community. The centre has been rapidly building bridges to seniors groups and organizations in the Peel Region to promote their Older Adult Volunteer Program. In addition to doing outreach at a number of groups and seniors’ centres, most recently the centre held information sessions in the Brampton community for older adults, and are co-ordinating two upcoming events for older adults to learn more about volunteering in the Mississauga and Caledon communities.

Brampton - On Tuesday, August 9, close to two dozen youth were recognized for their exemplary voluntary contributions in front of their peers, as well as representatives from the City of Brampton, including the Honourable Mayor Susan Fennell, and Volunteer MBC the local volunteer centre. The 2011 Youth Recognition Awards were held in the City Hall Atrium, a fitting location for many of the youth who have spent a significant amount of their hours at City Hall participating as a member of the Brampton Mayor’s Youth Team.
» Postcard Project Inspire Young Students to Volunteer

Brampton - In early December, the opening of Winter Wonderland at
Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park also unveiled the artistic creations by a number of young students from all across Brampton. Featured at the park is a display of “Signs of Winter” Postcards, which demonstrate a wide array of designs illustrating the winter season. Forty-one schools across Brampton were invited to submit their artistic creations, a postcard measuring 4 feet by 8 feet, which remains on display at the park until mid-January.

Mississauga - International Volunteer Day was celebrated on December 5, and is a day that celebrates the efforts of those who have made an important contribution to society by giving their time as volunteers. This year’s International Volunteer Day was particularly special as it also marked the launch of the tenth anniversary of the 2001 International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). IYV+10 will be held throughout 2011 and is an opportunity for people all around the world to join a global effort to reinvigorate the spirit of volunteerism.

This free event connects the Caledon communities and will offer a family village, classic car show, the 53rd CACY Fine Arts Show, heritage bus tours, vendors and displays, live music and will close with a fireworks finale.
