As a non-profit opera company and registered charity, Brampton Lyric Opera's ambition is to perform operatic productions on a yearly basis in a traditional full-staged production manner. Moreover, Brampton Lyric Opera's main goal is to provide opera productions to the public with affordable ticket prices and employing local artists in our shows. Brampton Lyric Opera, winner of the Best Overall Production at the 2006 Bloom Awards for the arts, and one of only 11 opera companies nationwide, is extremely proud to be part of this rebirth. Brampton can now rightly claim to be the cultural epicentre of Peel Region. There are more arts groups registered with the Brampton Arts Council than ever before – including Brampton Lyric Opera, the only opera company in Peel.
BLO has worked hard to make opera accessible — with its wildly-popular free outdoor concerts, and a repertoire of the most popular and well-loved operas, sometimes set in contemporary times or sung in English.Continuing its efforts to stage the very best in opera, our fledgling opera company has scored an impressive coup by booking internationally-acclaimed Canadian baritone Russell Braun in concert at the Rose Theatre, on November 12th at 8:00 p.m. One of the most sought-after lyric baritones on the international stage today, RUSSELL BRAUN performs regularly at the Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, l'Opéra de Paris and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. He was the winner of the 2001 JUNO AWARD for Best Classical Album Vocal or Choral Performance.
The concert, to be conducted by Mark Dubois and Shek Ko, will include a full orchestra, and performances by Brampton's own Glyn Evans and members of the Canadian Opera Company. Tickets begin at the incredible price of $36.00.
