Paulina Su and Stephanie Hagendorn never expected the amount of response they got to their exhibit's call for entry.

"It was great to see the amazing level of participation our show received," Su commented.

The two grade eleven students organized “Mayfield Exposed!”, an exhibit of drawings, paintings, and photography by eighteen students at Mayfield School of Arts. "The amount and quality of works we received this year tops last year's exhibit," Su commented.

The exhibit, held at the Fridge Front Gallery in the Shoppers World mall, includes art from grades nine, ten, and eleven. Due to the sheer number of works entered, Su and Hagendorn were forced to edit out from what was collected.

While many north Brampton residents attend Mayfield, Paulina and Stephanie are among those enrolled in the Regional Arts Program, from which students can choose Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, or Music strands. The four-year program provides an intensive focus on the arts that would be hard to achieve in normal high schools.

Community art group Visual Arts Brampton (VAB), which runs the Fridge Front Gallery, also holds year-long youth classes. While both the organizers were students in these classes, Su holds the record for longest participation, attending seven of the nine years the classes have been offered.

VAB is looking for more schools to exhibit with Fridge Front.

"The exhibit space is open to any school in the Greater Toronto Area, particularly within Brampton," said Keith Moreau, president of VAB. "The community loves to see creativity from any grade, by children of all skill levels."

Teachers, principals, and parents interested in getting their school involved with the Fridge Front Gallery can contact visualartsbrampton@gmail.com or phone (905) 453-9142 for more information.

Fridge Front Gallery is located in a corridor between Winners and the new Bluenotes’ store, on the west side of Shoppers World. Shoppers World is at the intersection of Steeles and Hurontario, at 299 Main St S.
