Peel Regional Police press releases and community events information. In addition to the officers assigned by Peel Regional Police, personnel from The Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police Service, Halton Police Service, Guelph Police Service, The Ministry of Transportation, Canada Customs, and The Ministry of the Environment were inspecting commercial vehicles for operational safety issues. These issues included tires, brakes, suspensions, load security, the transportation of dangerous goods and driver qualifications.
As a result of this impressive cooperative effort a total of 270 commercial vehicles were inspected, of which 108 failed the inspection and were subsequently put out of service. This was a total failure rate of 40 percent. In addition,
Weather conditions on Wednesday, October 11, prevented further commercial vehicle inspections from taking place.
Improving the mechanical safety of all vehicles operating within the Region of Peel is seen as a proactive measure in road safety for our community. In addition to the heavy truck inspections that have taken place, a series of inspections focusing on personal vehicles will also be undertaken as part of the Safe Driver campaign.
The Peel Regional Police would like to remind all road users that road safety is a shared responsibility and it begins with you.
