The CRWMSU is an innovative strategy that the Region of Peel can consider when addressing a variety of water planning needs, such as rural water quality improvements and alternate stormwater management practices for rivers and streams.

"This Strategy Update provides us with the opportunity to maintain consistent water resource planning throughout the Credit River Watershed with all of the watershed municipalities," says Nick Tunnacliffe, Commissioner of Planning. "Most importantly, it can also address obligations under various provincial initiatives, including the Planning Act, the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and the Greenbelt Plan."

By utilizing collaborative partnerships between the Region, other municipalities, provincial agencies, the Credit Valley Conservation and other stakeholders, this Strategy Update helps support the planning and development of sustainable watershed measures now and in the future.

"The health, social and economic well-being of residents can be linked to the quality of our environment," says Richard Paterak, Regional Councillor and Planning Committee Chair. "This Strategy Update assists balancing growth pressures with the protection of public well-being and environmental health."

The CRWMSU also aligns with Liveable Peel, a Regional initiative that promotes long-term planning to 2051 by balancing the social, economic, environmental and cultural needs of Peel's residents. Its goal is to ensure that future generations are able to live, work and travel in an inclusive and prosperous community, and seeks to include growth management strategies that provide balance between the natural and built environments.
