Surjit Singh Flora has worked as writer for the past 20 years. He is a reporter and photographer for the Hamdard Weekly Punjabi Newspaper in Brampton. His articles, poems and stories have been published in local and international newspapers and magazines. He won the Editor’s Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry in 1993. Surjit is a resident of Brampton.
Sikhs from Mississauga, Brampton and the surrounding area celebrated the 402nd anniversary of the installation of the holy book, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, last Sunday at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Malton. This historic event was undertaken by the fifth guru Arjan Dev Ji.
A procession was led by the Panj Piyaras (Five Beloved Ones) and the sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was presented on an elegantly-decorated vehicle of fresh flowers and petals.
In attendance were Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, Mississauga Ward 5 Councillor Eve Adams, Peel Regional Police Chief Mike Metcalf, Member of Parliament for Bramalea-Gore-Malton Gurbax Singh Malhi and First Turbaned Sikh.
