The Beavers continue to challenge the top teams in the Marshall Premier Division and came very close to beating the league leaders at Fletchers fields on Saturday.

The Beavers continue to challenge the top teams in the Marshall Premier Division and came very close to beating the league leaders at Fletchers fields on Saturday. Playing a brand of exciting, attacking rugby with number 8 Chris Mooney and his flank forwards Dave Jacks and Jamie Vickery at the centre of many offensive thrusts. First half tries were scored by Kevin Spicer, Chris Mooney and Craig Leblanc with Pat Russell converting two of the tries giving the Beavers a 19 – 10 half time lead.
A controversial decision by the referee resulted in Mooney, the games outstanding player, being sent to the sin-bin for ten frustrating minutes for an alleged offence. During this time, with the Beavers playing a man short, Barbarians scored sufficient points, that despite a fighting comeback by the Beavers, secured victory for the home side. The Beavers scored a penalty try which was converted and by scoring four tries and losing by less than seven points claimed two valuable bonus points in their quest for a top four berth. Balmy Beach, joint fourth with Brampton at the start defeated Nomads to stay in fourth place by themselves and the Beavers are now a close fifth.
In summary, this was a fine team performance. Coach Chris Allen has the team playing an excellent brand of rugby with good forward play and the back division improving with every game. The entire team contributed to this excellent performance and newcomer Massimo Sandria, who came on as a replacement in the second half, will be a valuable addition to the Beaver's squad. It was nice to see long serving Barbarian volunteers, John Reich and Simon Allen supporting the home team and enjoying the team's success. They have worked hard to consolidate this Barbarian club since they merged with Aurora.
