Brampton - The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) offers a jam-packed lineup of brand new exhibitions, public programs, lectures and events this May and June. Along with other exciting events and exhibits, enjoy Museum Month this May with a free weekend at PAMA, then stop by in June as we unveil our brand new exhibition to celebrate Peel Region's 40th anniversary.


Celebrate Museum Month with a Free Weekend at PAMA

Celebrate Museum Month on May 17 and 18 at PAMA with new exhibitions and programs. Enjoy free admission this weekend and explore the exhibitions in the art gallery, museum and archives along with hands-on activities and tours for all ages.


Opening of the 40th Anniversary Exhibition

June 7, 2014 from 10 – 5 p.m.


On June 7, the Region of Peel will celebrate 40 years with free admission and activities in the art gallery, museum and archives.


Face of the Farmer Series – Workshop 1: Community Gardens and Hands-On Workshop

May 10, 2014 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.

$10 (Non-members); $8.50 (Members)

$30 families or groups with up to 2 adults and up to 5 children; $25.50 family members

This family workshop, led by Credit River Metis Councillor Darlene Lent, will take a look at community gardens and Métis traditions. Everyone will participate in a fun, hands-on gardening project that will have you growing vegetables in a very unique way! The Face of the Farmer Series continues with two more workshops on August 9 and August 16, respectively.

Photography Series – Workshop 1: Back to Basics

May 17, 2014 from 1 – 3:30 p.m.

$25 (Non-members); $21.25 (Members)

Are you looking to become more skilled at taking photographs, or would you like to master using your new camera? This workshop will show you how to manually control your camera and not be ‘stuck’ in auto mode all the time. You will learn how to use aperture and shutter speeds, ISO settings, a light metre and more to help you take the pictures you have always wanted to take. No point and shoot here! Join us and get to know the creative side of photography.

Adult Art Workshops

June 2 – 23, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

$60 (Non-members); $51 (Members)

Why not try a bit of everything! Here is your chance to explore different art-making techniques each week in a relaxed and creative environment. These workshops are for all skill levels and range from still life sketching to portraiture and anatomy. You will explore different media including charcoal & conté, printmaking, pen and ink and watercolour painting. Inspiration for each week is drawn from PAMA's collection. All materials are included.

PAMA Kids P.A. Day

June 9, 2014 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

$35 (Non-members); $29.75 (Members)

At PAMA we encourage kids to exercise their creativity, while experimenting with a variety of art materials and techniques. Children will create raw canvas paintings, learn how to create monoprints, and 3D paper sculptures. Along with learning the elements of colour, line, shape and texture, children will tour of the Art Gallery to discuss and explore current exhibitions. A great way to spend a PA day! 

Photography Series – Workshop 2: Creative Photographic Compositions

June 14, 2014 from 1 – 3:30 p.m.

$25 (Non-members); $21.25 (Members)

This is a perfect follow up to the Back to Basics workshop! Take the skills you learned and put them to good use as our instructor leads you though composition in photography. Good composition is the key to great photographs. You will learn about light levels, depth of field, framing and more. Get ready to see your potential! 

Drop-In Family Activities

Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.

Do you want to know what everyone is talking about? Join us on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and find out. PAMA's Drop-In Family Activities are quickly becoming one of our most popular programs. These activities are fun for all ages. Each week families can make and take home different creative projects inspired by PAMA's exhibitions. 


Photography in the Time of Digital Disenchantment

May 4 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Join guest curator Peggy Taylor Reid as she explores how digital photography has created a distance from the historical tradition of the photograph as a physical object. The artists in this exhibition are trying to re-establish this link, but with the awareness of how everything has changed. 

Legacy: David Somers and PAMA's Works on Paper Collection

June 8 from 2 – 3 p.m.

Free with admission

Join guest curator Judy Daley to explore in the exhibition Legacy: David Somers and PAMA's Works on Paper Collection. As well as highlighting the extensive collection of works on paper at PAMA, the exhibition pays tribute to the many artists and donors who continue to support the growth of this collection with donations made in honour of former curator David Somers.
