Brampton - The City of Brampton has again earned the prestigious platinum Play Works Youth Friendly Community status for 2013 to 2018.

To achieve the platinum award, a community must meet all 16 criteria set out by Play Works. This is the second time the City of Brampton has been recognized with this honour, maintaining platinum status since its last application in 2008.

Awarded at the Parks and Recreation Ontario Gala Awards banquet on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, the designation acknowledges the great work that the Brampton community is doing to ensure youth ages 13 to 19 have continuous access to a diversity of “play” through being physically active, being creative and being leaders and feeling accepted, feeling connected and feeling safe.

“The City of Brampton has a proven record of earning provincial, national and international awards that recognize our City’s forward-looking policies,” says Mayor Susan Fennell. “In Brampton we have made important community investments to support families and youth. Our platinum award win is proof we are delivering results for residents.”

Formed in 2003, Play Works is a partnership of organizations committed to advancing play for youth in Ontario. Members include 4-H Ontario, Arts Network for Children and Youth, Boys and Girls Canada Central Region, Laidlaw Foundation, Ophea, Parks and Recreation Ontario, Sport Alliance Ontario and YMCA Ontario.
