Brampton - On Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm, residents are invited to bring their pumpkins to Garden Square (in front of the Rose Theatre) where they can be lit up one last time before being composted.

This wonderful event, generously sponsored by Downtown Councillors John Sanderson, Elaine Moore, Grant Gibson and Bob Callahan, has resulted in the diversion of more than 1,500 pumpkins from landfill to date.

“The Great Pumpkin Party is celebrating its fifth year of bringing the community together and promoting and educating both young and old about the importance of composting and recycling,” comments Regional Councillor John Sanderson. “This annual event would not be possible without the generosity and support of local businesses. As your Downtown Councillors, we look forward to organizing and attending this event every year.”

The party will feature a free BBQ and apple cider as well as a cookie decorating station presented by Occassions Cakes, Cookies and Cupcakes, a thriving Brampton Bakery.

The party will include entertainment all evening on the Lorna Bissell Fountain Stage in the square featuring EnviroDrum, the Rory and Kaylee McDonald Band and culminating with the great pumpkin smash. You won’t want to miss that!

The event, also supported by the Region of Peel, educates residents about proper waste management and how they should compost their Halloween pumpkins rather than just putting them in the garbage.
