Brampton - Looking for a fun way to learn about and celebrate culture in your community? Join the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) for free Culture Days activities on Sept. 28-29. During this free weekend, visitors can discover their cultural spirit and passion by participating in a variety of interactive and behind the scenes activities for all ages.

CULTURE DAYS ACTIVITIES AT PAMA, SATURDAY, SEPT. 28

Create Your Own Abstract Art Work 1 -  5 p.m. – Create abstract art using unique and unusual materials in our Drop-in Family workshops from 1 - 5 p.m.

Paranormal History of Brampton – 10:30 - 11:30 p.m. – Explore will help explore the unusual and sometimes paranormal history of the city with the After Dark Tours. Meet up with Steve Collie to hear about PAMA’s historic jail.

Artist Demo with Lila Lewis Irving – 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. – Are you interested in meeting a local abstract artist?  Want to learn more about PAMA’s brand new exhibition Peel Artists: Lila Lewis Irving and Doreen Renner?  Stop by our studio and meet Lila Lewis Irving.  She will be working on a watercolour painting while answering all of your questions.         

Meet Local Author Dale O’Hara – 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. – Have you ever wondered why Brampton was named the “Flower Town?”  Join author Dale O’Hara as she travels back in time to the 1900s to discuss the Dale estate and Brampton’s very green past.        

Textile Artist Demo with Chamila Belleth – 1 - 2 p.m. – Don’t miss textile artist Chamila Belleth as she demonstrates how to create abstract art using fabric. Often working from her photography, she explores the intricacies found in nature. 

Film Screening ‘Decade of the Arrow’ – 2 - 3 p.m. – One of the greatest achievements in aviation, and Canadian history was the Avro Arrow.  But what exactly happened to it?  Why was it destroyed?  Steve Shaw Productions presents ‘Decade of the Arrow’ a short documentary examining the history of the Avro Arrow. After the film, Steve Shaw will answer questions.

Talk by Acting Curator Gerrie Loveys – 2 - 3 p.m. – How do you handle an oil painting?  What does the sunlight do to watercolours?  Will colour photographs fade over time? Join PAMA’s Acting Curator, Gerrie Loveys as she leads a discussion on proper care and storage of art followed by tours through PAMA’s state-of-the-art storage facility.

Join Local History Writer Dave Cook – 3 - 4 p.m. – With deep roots in Peel’s past, author and community advocate Dave Cook will speak about the history of Peel, including Canada’s controversial Avro Arrow.

Artist Demo With Andrea Bird – 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. – Watch encaustic artist Andrea Bird work with coloured wax as she creates one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Inspired by the medium she lets her materials lead her through a spontaneous creation process.
