Brampton - Employees of the Region of Peel and Peel Regional Police took up the United Way of Peel Region’s challenge to “give, volunteer and act” in support of their local community and together raised close to $500,000 through personal donations and events for the charity in 2012. A cheque for $492,979 was jointly presented by the two employee groups to Shelley White, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Peel Region, at Regional Council on March 21, 2013.
Both employee campaigns exceeded their goals. Region of Peel employees raised $350,642, while Peel Regional Police employees contributed $142,337. The United Way of Peel Region has been the corporate charity of choice for the Region of Peel for more than 35 years and, over the last 10 years, employees have donated more than $4 million to support long-term social change in the Peel community.
Judette Walker-Miller and Gagan Buttar were co-chairs of the Region of Peel employee campaign; Constable Dan Dimitroff was the representative for the Peel Regional Police employee campaign.
“I want to congratulate the leaders of our campaigns for the great job they did in inspiring staff to raise funds through personal donations and participate in events that contributed to the United Way,” says Emil Kolb, Regional Chair, CEO and Chair of the Peel Police Services Board. “We are proud to continue our support for this charity as it works hard to meet the immediate needs in the community and tackle the underlying causes of social issues in Peel Region.”
At the Council meeting, the Region’s Chief Administrative Officer thanked all employees for their efforts and contributions in support of the campaign. “There is no stronger show of community support than in coming together to help those in need,” says David Szwarc.
The United Way of Peel Region provides financial support to more than 50 agency partners in the social services sector in Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga.
“The Region of Peel and Peel Regional Police have been United Way supporters for more than 35 years,” says Shelley White, President and Chief Executive Officer, United Way of Peel Region. “Through their 2012 campaign, they have demonstrated their ongoing commitment to the people of Peel. Through their campaign efforts and contributions, they are helping to move people from poverty to possibility, helping kids be all they can be, and building healthy people and stronger communities. We appreciate their partnership in our humanitarian efforts. The Region of Peel and Peel Regional Police are truly change champions.”
