Brampton - In its endeavor to put in in place appropriate checks and balances to help ensure community safety and security, the City of Brampton is moving ahead with plans to license children’s entertainers.
Brampton - In its endeavor to put in in place appropriate checks and balances to help ensure community safety and security, the City of Brampton is moving ahead with plans to license children’s entertainers. The decision was made by Committee of Council and is subject to final approval at next week’s City Council meeting.
Currently, there is no precedent for this type of licensing by other municipalities anywhere in Canada. Although there will be number of implementation challenges, including inconsistency in processes for Vulnerable Sector Checks among local police jurisdictions, the City is committed to developing and executing an effective licensing process.
“Brampton has been recognized as a global leader in community safety and this is yet another example of how seriously we take the safety of our citizens, young and old. I look forward to the staff report and working with my council colleagues to ensure we achieve just that,” commented Mayor Susan Fennell.
City staff will be reporting back to Council on the Licensing By-law amendment required for licensing children’s entertainers as well as an implementation plan, which will include the development and execution of a public service campaign to create awareness about licensing children’s entertainers in the City of Brampton.
