Brampton - On Monday, Feb. 18, join the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) for a free Family Day event from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Visitors will have free admission to PAMA, get an opportunity to explore the art gallery and museum wings, participate in hands-on activities, enjoy live entertainment and be one of the first to see the four new fascinating museum exhibitions. PAMA’s archives will also begin their new public hours.

“We would like to welcome the public to the final phase of our opening,” said Claire Loughheed, Manager, PAMA. “The free Family Day event is a great opportunity for people of all ages to explore our buildings, exhibitions and participate in hands-on activities. If you haven’t had a chance to come to PAMA yet, we encourage you to make Family Day the first of many visits.”
Family Day highlights include:

• Free admission for everyone
• Is it a vehicle? Is it a machine? Is it a musical instrument? It’s the Zoosemobile! Enjoy this wacky, interactive art piece where Dr Seuss meets Stomp! Brought to you by Peter Jarvis, the performer behind The Cube.
• Giveaways and free hands-on activities for all-ages
• A chance to see the recently opened art gallery and museum wings
• The new public hours for the archives

Be one of the first to see four new museum exhibitions:

We Are Here: The Story of Aboriginal People in Peel Region – This exhibition introduces visitors to the history, traditions and beliefs of the Aboriginal, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Peel Region. Although composed of diverse nations, they share a strong identity centering upon their relationship to the land as the Heart of Creation.
Face of the Farmer – Explore the changes in farming up to today’s local food focus, and get the dirt on what’s growing in Peel Region.
Water Wonderful, Water Wise – Discover what makes water so remarkable and how to be more water wise.
Moving Forward: Peel’s Transportation and Business Stories – From railroads to space travel, see which innovators and inventions have put Peel Region on the map.

The Family Day event is the third phase in the opening of PAMA. The Art Gallery opened on Sept. 30, 2012 and the first floor of the Museum wing opened on Nov. 24, 2012.
