This was one of the most exciting Ontario Premier League games of the season. The home team Harlequins were well prepared for this important clash. They needed to secure points to keep their place in the top six of the division. Brampton needed the points to move into the top four. The home side took an early lead with a brilliant score but the Beavers came back immediately to take the lead and then continued to exchange points with the Harlequins at an astonishing rate. During the course of the game a total of 73 points were accumulated and many excellent tries were scored. This victory by the Beavers ties them on points with Balmy Beach for fourth place and good performances in the remaining games could see them maintain fourth place or even move into third place by season's end.
A number of players returned including Chris Mooney from his Super League success for Newfoundland. Also back were Paul Abrams, Jamie Vickery, SteveGriffiths and Joel Waldock. The Beaver's squad now has strength and depth and the remaining Premier League games should prove to be exciting events. Dale Pike was again outstanding. His enthusiasm and ability to encourag the younger players is an essential component of this team and he must be on the short list to be this year's Most Valuable Player. There were many fine performances; the front row won an astonishing five strikes against the head - very rare in this competitive league, Abrams dominated the line-out and Mooney and Vickery were outstanding in all facets of back row play.
Try scorers for Brampton were: Kevin Spicer, Mike Moores, Waldock, Jason Simmons, Dale Pike, Mooney and Abrams with Niall Donnelly converting four of the seven tries..
On Saturday August 19, the Beaver's three senior men's teams go to Fletchers Fields for games against Aurora Barbarians who lead the Marshall League.
