Peel - Three Peel District School Board schools have been recognized with the Premier’s Safe Schools Award. Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School, Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School and Peel Alternative School are among 10 schools selected to receive the award from across Ontario.

“A positive learning and teaching environment is essential if students are to succeed in school,” says Tony Pontes, director of education at the Peel board. “At the Peel board, Safe Schools teams are a key element to creating a positive school climate. They bring together school staff, parents, students, and the community on a team to work together towards this common goal. I’m very proud to see three Peel board schools recognized with this award.”

The Premier’s Safe Schools Awards recognize up to 10 Safe Schools teams that have demonstrated initiative, creativity and leadership in promoting a safe and inclusive school climate. Fletcher’s Meadow also achieved this award in the 2010-11 school year.

For more information on the award, as well as descriptions about the work of each of the schools, visit http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/safeschools/award.html.
