Brampton - The Region of Peel is offering residents a two-week Exemption Period* for waste collection following the Victoria Day holiday from Tuesday, May 22 to Friday, June 1, 2012.

During the curbside waste collection Exemption Period, residents may place unlimited quantities of acceptable waste at the curb on their scheduled waste collection day. No garbage tags will be required for this period only.

“Household spring cleaning activities often generate additional waste,” says Ben Shepherd, Manager of Waste Collection and Processing. “The two-week Exemption Period is a great opportunity to dispose of excess waste around the home without having to tag garbage bags or containers in excess of the two bag limit.”

As part of the Two Bag Standard program, the Region of Peel offers three curbside waste collection Exemption Periods each year. The next curbside waste collection Exemption Period* occurs after the Labour Day holiday, from Tuesday, Sept. 4 to Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.

Residents should note that regular drop-off fees will apply at all Community Recycling Centres during the Exemption Period.

*Residents in the Bi-Weekly Collection Pilot Project areas should refer to their collection calendars.

The Region of Peel provides waste management services in the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga and in the Town of Caledon. For more information on these programs, call the Region of Peel at 905-791-9499 (or in long-distance areas of Caledon call 905-584-2216 , free of charge) or visit www.peelregion.ca/waste.
