Peel - In September, 2009, Peel Regional Police Officers arrested and charged two males with several drug-related offences in relation to a quantity of cocaine. A preliminary hearing of the matter was held before the Honourable Justice J. Baltman of the Superior Court of Justice in Brampton.

On September 27, 2011, Justice Baltman delivered a ruling that brought into question evidence given during the preliminary hearing by five members of our Service. The contents of the ruling were subject to a court-imposed publication ban.

Upon learning of Justice Baltman’s comments, Chief Mike Metcalf immediately ordered an internal investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau.

On Thursday, February 9, 2012, one of the accused pleaded guilty to Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, at which time the publication ban was lifted.

Chief Metcalf states; “The men and women of Peel Regional Police are committed to providing professional and ethical service to citizens. It is paramount that we maintain the confidence of the community that we serve. Allegations made against members of this service are taken seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.”

The officers involved in this matter remain on active duty pending the completion of the internal investigation.
