Brampton – The Peel Heritage Complex (PHC) is expanding again, this time with the addition of two new staff.  The PHC is pleased to welcome Marty Brent as the Supervisor of Museum and Archives, and Judy Daley, as the Curator of Art Gallery and Education Services.

Marty Brent joins the PHC after 20 years at Black Creek Pioneer Village as Executive Director and Curator. During her time there, Brent managed the 31-hectare site which included buildings, the visitor centre, livestock, gardens and restaurants. Prior to that, she spent 10 years with the Ontario Ministry of Culture managing the Community Museum Program and as a Museums Advisor. She holds a BA in History from Stanford University, an MA in Museum Studies from University of Toronto, and a Certificate in Non-Profit Sector Management from York University Schulich School of Business. She has served on Ontario Museum Association (OMA) Council and on peer review and advisory panels for the Federal and Provincial governments. In her spare time she is a glass artist.

“We are delighted to welcome Marty to the team. She is a highly accomplished heritage executive with a record of entrepreneurial leadership and innovation in museums. Her skill in leading growth and transformation, motivating diverse teams of specialists, and managing multifaceted operations make her a strong addition to the PHC,” said Claire Loughheed, Manager, PHC.

Prior to her new position at the PHC, Judy Daley was Acting Curator since 2009 and Assistant Curator from 1986-2009. She has curated numerous exhibitions including thematic exhibitions of the Gallery’s Permanent Collection. Major curatorial projects include: Painted in Peel an exhibition of Peel landscape paintings by members of the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, and Forty Years of Collecting.  In her new position, Daley heads the Gallery Curatorial and Education Team who have planned an exciting line-up of art exhibitions and programs for when the PHC re-opens next year.

“We are also pleased at the opportunity to continue working with Judy in her new position as Curator of Art Gallery and Education Services. Her proven success at the PHC over the years has made her an incredible asset to the team.  We look forward to working with her in the years to come.”

The Peel Heritage Complex is making history. A $13-million restoration and construction project commenced in 2010 to enhance the land and buildings that hold the Region of Peel’s museum, archives and art gallery. The Peel Heritage Complex is temporarily closed. When the Complex re-opens in 2012, there will be expanded exhibition and collection storage.

The Peel Heritage Complex collects, preserves and displays art, artifacts and archival documents significant to Peel’s culture and heritage. Operated by the Region of Peel, the Peel Heritage Complex is located at 9 Wellington St., E. in Brampton. Visit peelheritagecomplex.org for more information.
