PEEL, ON, Aug. 5 /CNW/ - Investigators with the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit have arrested and charged a 29 year-old man in relation to two recent sexual assaults that occurred within a few hours of each other.

On Saturday, July 22, 2006, at around 3:00 a.m., the female victim was riding her bicycle in the parking lot of Shoppers World, located at 499 Main Street South in Brampton. As she approached the corner of the Zellers store, the suspect grabbed her and dragged her from her bicycle. He then punched the victim and sexually assaulted her. The suspect released the victim following the assault and fled the area in a vehicle. Minor injuries were sustained.

On Saturday, July 22, 2006, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the female victim exited her parked vehicle in the underground garage and entered a secured area of the building located at 1300 Mississauga Valley Boulevard in Mississauga.  At that time, the suspect forced his way through the entrance door, punched the victim numerous times and sexually assaulted her. The victim fought back, managed to break free from the suspect, at which time he fled the area. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries.

On Friday, August 4, 2006, Peel Regional Police issued a Community Safety Alert to advise the public about the two events, what was known about the offender, and to reassure members of this community that apprehending this individual was a high priority for investigators.

On Friday, August 4, 2006, investigators, acting upon information they had received, attended a residence in Mississauga and arrested the suspect.

Michael ROBERTSON, 29 years-old, from Mississauga, faces charges of Forcible Confinement, Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Choking. He will appear for a bail hearing in an Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Sunday, August 6, 2006.
