Brampton - Peel Housing Corporation (PHC) was recognized today by the Federation of Rental-Housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) for certifying its 70 residential property sites under FRPO's Certified Rental Building (CRB) Program. The PHC is the first social housing provider in Canada to receive the CRB Program designation.

FRPO is the leading advocate for quality rental housing in Ontario and its CRB Program provides rental housing consumers with quality assurance when selecting their home.  To achieve CRB Program designation, the entire portfolio of PHC properties underwent the following requirements:

  1. Adherence to 38 standards of practice covering a wide range of building management and customer service practices.
  2. Mandatory external audits, conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, to ensure all sites strictly adhere with the standards of practice.
  3. Mandatory completion of the program's Property Manager's Training & Education Course by building management and operations staff.

"As Canada's first social housing provider to achieve the Certified Rental Building Designation, we take tremendous pride in receiving this award," said Paul Palleschi, Regional Councillor and President of PHC.  "This achievement reinforces our commitment to offering the 16,060 residents of Peel Living with the highest standards in quality housing and customer service."

Glen O'Brecht, General Manager, PHC states, "Achieving designation under the CRB program involved a rigorous process that required the efforts of our staff to ensure FRPO standards were met. Today's award is a direct result of their outstanding contributions and dedication to Peel Living residents.

"We congratulate Peel Housing Corporation management and staff for being the first social housing provider in Canada to achieve the Certified Rental Building designation," said FRPO President and CEO Vince Brescia. "It is a major accomplishment for the Region of Peel and raises the bar for all social housing providers to offer the same level of quality FRPO certification ensures."

Said FRPO's Director of Certification, Ted Whitehead, "FRPO's accreditation program provides its members with a consistent set of standards that represent good value in rental housing for Ontario consumers. The program seal of approval is a symbol of quality that helps tenants easily recognize well-run, well-managed buildings.

"A key benefit for Ontario tenants is that this program provides added peace of mind when they choose a CRBP-approved building. It confirms they have selected a rental home where the property manager cares about the quality of the rental building and the quality of service they provide to tenants," added Whitehead.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon. Peel Housing Corporation's first building, was opened in 1979.
