Brampton - Spend time with your family, tour exciting exhibitions and participate in hands-on workshops without spending a fortune over the Family Day weekend. As part of Heritage Day celebrations, visit Peel Heritage Complex (PHC) for free on Sunday, Feb. 14 and Monday, Feb. 15 from noon – 4:30 p.m.

Heritage Day and Family Day are celebrated the third Monday in February in Ontario.

"Residents and visitors can learn about Peel's past and celebrate Canada's extraordinary history at Peel Heritage Complex," said Denise Gouveia, Development Co-ordinator, PHC. "On Family Day weekend, feel inspired by art, artifacts and activities in our Museum, Archives and Art Gallery."

Free activities at Peel Heritage Complex include:

  • Decorate miniature versions of clothing from soldiers' uniforms to wedding dresses
  • Create unique works of art using palette knives and other creative tools
  • Learn the basics of genealogy and how to trace your family history from around the world

Drop-in only, no registration required. Parents must accompany children.

Heritage Day was established in 1973 by the Heritage Canada Foundation, and is recognized the third Monday in February to encourage the preservation and promotion of Canada's nationally significant historic, architectural, natural and scenic heritage.

PHC consists of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage.

PHC is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St., E. in Brampton. The PHC is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission fees are $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students and $7 for families.
