Peel – The Peel Regional Police are sending 59 officers to Vancouver to help provide security during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The officers, who were selected from across the organization, will be leaving on various days in the coming weeks to join the R.C.M.P. led "Integrated Security Unit". The I.S.U. is composed of almost 7,000 officers representing 118 police agencies from across Canada, and is responsible for overall safety and security at the Games.

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games will bring athletes, spectators and tourists from around the world to Vancouver in February. Representing the third largest municipal police service in Canada, Peel Regional Police officers will play an important role in providing adequate policing services at 30 venues in both the City of Vancouver and Cypress Mountain/Whistler Resort.

The officers are looking forward to this unique opportunity and to represent Peel Region on the world stage says Deputy Chief Dan McDonald. "I'm proud of the men and women who will represent us at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. These ambassadors will be front and centre with colleagues from across Canada to ensure that the Games are safe and successful."
