Brampton - Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau would like to alert the public, following the arrest of a suspect fraudulently posing as a canvasser for the Special Olympics.

On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Peel Regional Police received a call for service indicating a suspicious male was canvassing in the area of Massey Street in Brampton. During the investigation, it was determined the suspect was canvassing door-to-door, advising people that he was soliciting money for the Special Olympics.

Arjun MULLICK, a 28 year-old male from Brampton, has been charged with one count of Fraud Under Five Thousand and one count of Obstruct Peace Officer. He has been held for a bail hearing and will be making a court appearance on January 14, 2010, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police would like to remind members of the public that canvassers of recognized charities are required to carry identification with them. If in doubt, contact the charity specified by the canvasser by telephone. Do not invite canvassers inside your home.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 2133. Anonymous tips may also be submitted via Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), at http://www.peelcrimestoppers.ca/ or by texting "PEEL", followed by your tip, to CRIMES (274637).
