Program aims to brighten holidays
Brampton - Seniors who are alone have the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas.Home Instead Senior Care, a local home provider for seniors, will once again run the Be a Santa to a Senior Program this holiday season as a way to brighten the lives of lonely seniors.
"We see older adults who have no one during the festive holiday season and that makes for a very sad and lonely time," said Priscilla Fernandes, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Peel, Halton and Caledon areas.
The program kicked off November 15th, and is a local charity program that enables community seniors who are alone to receive a gift for the holiday season.
Holiday Trees are placed in the local retail outlets including Giant Tiger and Shoppers Home Health and outlines a senior's wish list for the holidays. Participating donors then purchase the listed items, and return them unwrapped with the ornament tag attached. Home Instead Senior Care will then, with the help of staff and community volunteers, wrap and deliver the gifts.
"With the help of local volunteers and local businesses like Canadian Tire we then hand deliver each present to the seniors in time for Christmas" said Fernandes.
