Peel Crime Stoppers continues to build on the success of its "Gun Stoppers Program", a powerful crime prevention tool launched in 2002.  Maintaining the safety of students and staff in the Region's schools was the primary purpose for Gun Stoppers.

The Gun Stoppers Program allows Peel Crime Stoppers to take a proactive position within area high schools.   Students are encouraged to report any weapons hidden or found in schools by contacting 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by submitting a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers.  Peel Crime Stoppers will pay out $100.00 for any real, replica or pellet gun seized from a school, even if an arrest is not made.  Cash rewards will also be paid out to tipsters whose information leads to the seizure of weapons which put student and staff safety at risk.

Gun Stoppers is also working to put a halt to the number of illegal guns and weapons turning up on our neighbourhood streets.  Peel Crime Stoppers urges anyone who knows about an illegal gun or weapon to contact them at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips can also be made through the internet by accessing http://www.peelcrimestoppers.ca/ and click on "submit a tip". If the information leads to a gun being seized by police, you will become eligible for a cash reward, with or without an arrest being made.

Eight years after the launch of this program, it has been responsible for the seizure of 107 guns, 35 knives, 2 machetes and 1 baseball bat in the Region of Peel.

Peel Crime Stoppers values the continued support of the community. The public's partnership with the police makes our community a safer place to live, work and play.
