Ottawa - Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff announced today that the Honourable Navdeep Bains (Mississauga-Brampton South) has agreed to serve as Chair of Platform Development for the Liberal Party.

"The Liberal Party has its eyes on the future," said Mr. Ignatieff. "We are looking to articulate a vision that will inspire Canadians and Navdeep will be a key part in turning those ideas into a plan for action."

Mr. Bains will also be appointed to the Liberal Party's National Policy and Platform Committee where he will serve as Caucus Accountability Officer.  Working with his caucus colleagues, the party and Canadians, Mr. Bains will coordinate the development of the platform that the party will run on in the next election.

The Honourable Mauril Bélanger will serve as vice-chair of the Liberal Party's National Policy and Platform Committee. As vice-chair Mr. Bélanger will play a crucial role working with Liberals from across the country to engage the grassroots in the policy development process.
