Problem with certain "Blue Ember Gas Grills"

Toronto - In cooperation with CSA International, Fiesta Barbeques of Brampton, Ontario today announce that there may be an assembly problem with certain "Blue Ember Gas Grills". This safety notice involves Blue Ember brand liquid propane (LP) or natural gas outdoor barbeques, Models FG50057 and FG50069. Approximately 34,000 units were distributed across Canada.

The barbeques may be assembled improperly exposing the burner hoses to excessive heat, and may pose a fire and burn hazard to users. Fiesta has received 16 reports of barbeque fires in Canada that may have been caused by the burner hose being placed behind the heat shield. No injuries have been reported.

The affected model and serial numbers are listed below. The model and serial numbers are printed on a rating plate label on the rear of the grill. The cabinet style grill has two doors and is silver-coloured and black or silver-coloured and gray. "Blue Ember" is printed on the grill's hood.

The barbeques were sold nationwide at various home centres and retailers from November 2007 through June 2008.

Consumers should immediately stop using the barbeques, and inspect the burner hoses to make sure they have been properly assembled. If the hose is to the rear of the installed heat shield, the barbeque has been improperly assembled and consumers should contact Fiesta for replacement hoses, assembly instructions and, if necessary, for assistance in examining the grill.
