Brampton - Twenty of 42 registered candidates running in nine federal ridings in Peel Region have responded to a questionnaire developed to identify their positions on key issues that affect residents.
Candidate responses to the questionnaire, prepared by the Region's Government Relations Committee, have been posted on the Region's website for each riding and will continue to be updated as responses are received.
The Government Relations Committee invited federal election candidates to attend a briefing on September 22nd on issues and concerns that affect the quality of life Peel residents' experience. Twenty-four candidates attended the briefing.
Issues covered at the briefing included: the need for more poverty reduction initiatives; creative approaches to providing assisted/affordable housing; providing fairness to immigrants seeking work; equal Employment Insurance benefits for all Ontarians; providing per-capita health care funding immediately, rather than phasing it in by 2014-15 and recognizing Peel as an ideal location for new programs.
At the end of the briefing, candidates were provided with a questionnaire and asked to complete it within a week. The results obtained thus far are posted at: www.peelregion.ca/council/election/ridings/ridings.htm.
