Art direct from India is being featured in Brampton's Fridge Front Gallery currently.

Visual Arts Brampton is presenting the art of Shusma, an Indian artist who was visiting the area. Her artwork is in a truly unique technique, based on the traditional "rabari" medium. Shusma's illustrates scenes by squeezing polymer onto cardstock. The works are then coloured with oil paint.

Shusma told Visual Arts Brampton that rabari is traditionally used to decorate walls. To those unfamilar with this little-known technique, it is somewhat similar to henna, or even cake decorating, however the lines and details are much finer than the latter.

The display also include three meticulously-detailed pen-and-ink line drawings of Khmjaro temples.

The rest of the Fridge Front Gallery featuring the works of Visual Arts Brampton's year-long, weekly youth classes, as per normal. For the month of June, the exhibits feature animal artwork, in collaboration with Visual Arts Brampton's adult display in the neighbouring Artway Gallery.

Sushma's show runs until Friday 28 July 2006. The Fridge Front Gallery is located at the northwest mall entrance of Shoppers World Brampton (399 Main Street South), and is open during regular mall hours.
