Brampton - The Region of Peel will receive $67,043,893 from the Province of Ontario to help pay for infrastructure priorities.
The funding is part of a $1.1 billion investment in municipal infrastructure announced yesterday by Premier Dalton McGuinty at the annual conference of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
"This announcement is fantastic news for residents and businesses in Peel," said Regional Chairman Emil Kolb. "As one of the fastest growing communities in the Province, our infrastructure needs are significant. This investment will benefit residents and stimulate the economy in all three municipalities in Peel – Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. It's very good news that Peel will be able to set its own priorities for applying these funds. Ambulance and paramedic services, social housing and roads are all top items on our list."
"We look forward to working with our area municipalities on this investment," continued Kolb. "It will complement the investments they are making in their infrastructure."
The Cities of Mississauga and Brampton, and the Town of Caledon also received a portion of the overall $1.1 billion of funding.
