Brampton Defeat Crusaders in Junior Rugby Game

BRAMPTON  U18 - 37
CRUSADERS U18 -  5

In the midweek U18 league rugby match, Brampton U18 team overwhelmed their counterparts from Oakville by 37 ­- 5.  The Beavers scored seven tries in total with MikeSheppard and Chas Crawford scoring two each. Individual tries were scoredby Nick Walters, Adam Cameron and Josh Sheppard with Mike Sheppard converting one try. There were a number of outstanding performances ­as usual Mike Sheppard was a tower of strength at number 8 and was the dominant player on the field. Other performances of note were given by Riel Wolfaardt and Matt Heinbuch. This year's U18 squad is extremely strong and includes a number of provincial players

Congratulations go to Mike Sheppard, Nick Walters, Chas Crawford and Riel Wolfaardt on their selection for the Ontario Provincial U18 squad for the coming season and also to Killian Hamilton for his selection to the Ontario All Star U14 team. Congratulations also to Caleb Groen for selection to the Ontario U16 squad and Marco Patricio and Brock and Zachary Wright for selection to the Ontario U15 squad.

On Wednesday the annual Sam Blair Memorial Trophy game was played between an All Star Ontario Junior team and a Brampton Junior team on this occasion Mike Sheppard was the outstanding player for the Ontario team against his own club. This was an exhibition game and won by the Provincial team by 45 - 13.The late Sam Blair was a pioneer of junior rugby in the Brampton club and much of his hard work in the early eighties helped to build the foundations for the club's outstanding junior program. Sam's widow Joanne Blair was at the game to present the trophy to the winning team.

Next junior match is U16 vs. Oakville Crusaders on Sat July 8 10:30 @ MSG Park.
