Brampton - Effective Tuesday, September 2, 2008, Brampton Transit will introduce new services, routes and enhancements to 22 existing routes. These improvements will provide more frequent service on some routes, better connections between routes and add three more fully accessible routes.

"Public transit is key to building a sustainable future for our citizens and our beautiful city. Brampton Transit ridership is growing three times the national average and we are committed to meeting that demand in a timely and effective manner, while maintaining excellent service," said Mayor Susan Fennell.

"Our goal is to become the transportation of choice for our residents. We want to encourage more people to use transit and leave their cars at home. These service changes will provide more routes and connections to help our citizens make that choice," said Suzanne Bass, Director, Brampton Transit.

New routes include: Route 101 Airport Express, Route 77A to York University and Route 15A Bramalea. The airport express will be available weekdays and Saturday from Bramalea Transit Centre to Pearson Airport Terminal 1 with only one stop – Bramalea Road and Steeles Avenue. The Route 77A will be available during the weekday peak periods from Bramalea Transit Centre to York University and the Route 15A Bramalea will be available during the weekday peak periods between Bramalea GO Station and Brampton Civic Hospital.

New accessible routes: Route 14, 30 and 101.

Changes to existing routes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7/7A, 11, 12, 14, 15, 18/18A, 19, 22, 23, 29, 30, 31, 50, 51, 53, 77, 91 plus all school routes have been renumbered.

The City is committed to providing effective, environmentally sustainable transportation options to the public and ensuring there are alternate mobility options available to the citizens of Brampton. The September service changes are part of Brampton Transit's continuous improvement process that will in the coming years lead to the introduction of AcceleRide bus rapid transit service in 2010.
