Brampton - In recent years, the Peel Heritage Complex (PHC) has provided youth volunteers with experience in community interaction, event co-ordination and marketing initiatives. Volunteer projects such as the Summer Camp and Heritage Yard Sale help youths to enhance their research, creativity and design skills.

This summer, the PHC will have 15 volunteers participating in and initiating projects including the annual Student Selection Exhibition in the Whitney Gallery. Volunteers will have an opportunity to research artifacts, artwork or documents of interest to them. Items will then be selected for an exhibition and the research collected by the volunteers will be placed on display and presented to the public. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to refine their leadership skills as a summer camp assistant, conduct research and work with the archives database and create podcasts tours of the Complex and its history in an effort to inform youths about local heritage and culture.

In addition to these benefits, the PHC is offering projects which allow students to complete their 40 hours of community service. The Complex provides opportunities to candidates who show a genuine interest in either the arts or history or those who would like to pursue a career in an archive, museum or art gallery environment.
