Since 1979, The Brampton Minor Basketball Association (BMBA) has been dedicated to teaching youths ages 7-18 to play and enjoy the game of basketball. From grass-roots development to our elite development representative teams, our goal is to continually establish a program that will provide an atmosphere to challenge all participants, allowing them to develop at their own pace. Each year we place close to 1,300 participants in our winter/summer house and rep team leagues. BMBA emphasizes fair play, respect and community service. Over the years we have seen the growth and enjoyment of this wonderful sport soar in our community. They were dunking and grabbing the rim in warm-ups. Our boys turned to watch them somewhat awestruck. "Why are we watching them," asked Coach Poyser. "Let's focus on what we do, and I'm sure we can do it a whole lot better." "They have to make shots and hit lay ups against our press," he added.
Brampton beat that Euclid team from New York 53 - 23 by way of a zone trap. They had a difficult time getting the ball over half court thus smothering their offense. The boys did the same Versus the Bobcats from Philly beating them 48-27.
The final game proved to be even easier as the team became more cohesive and the zone trap led to many fast break points. They won the gold medal game 64 to 18. "I think when these boys are on their game and are clicking, they can run with any boys of their age in North America," stated Assistant Coach Wayne Brooks.
Coach Poyser is very pleased with their performance and the direction that the team is headed. The province will be keeping an eye on this talented bunch of players.
