Chief of Family Medicine at Osler
wins two prestigious medical awards
Brampton/Etobicoke - Dr. Frank Martino, Chief of Family Medicine at William Osler Health Centre, has been named Family Physician of the Year for Southern Ontario Region by the Ontario College of Family Physicians. Of the five regional winners, he was also selected as Family Physician of the Year for all of Ontario. The awards will be officially presented at an event in November.
Dr. Martino joined the hospital in 1991 as a staff physician and has been Chief of Family Medicine since 2006. He is also the Director of Osler's Medical Trainee Program and coroner for North Peel. In addition, Dr. Martino is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto's Department of Family and Community Medicine and was Director of the family medicine practice management course for about 10 years. Since 2003, he has been an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University and was largely responsible for establishing the new Family Medicine Residency Program that has just been launched at Brampton Civic Hospital in partnership with McMaster.
With Dr. Martino's guidance, enthusiasm and dedication, family medicine at Osler has flourished and continues to set new standards for education and patient care. He also champions other initiatives such as the Smoke-Free Policy and the hospital's Ambassador Program. In 1998 and again in 2001, he won awards for education (teaching) and in 2005 he received the Osler Award of Excellence.
