Telecare Distress Centre, a non-profit community based organization in the Region of Peel that provides free, anonymous, confidental listening and emotional support and community referrals to individuals experiencing isolation, depression, suicidal thoughts, abuse, addictions, grief, frustration or having difficulty coping in life. Description = Free, anonymous, confidential listening/emotional support and community referral service for Region of Peel.

Title = Distress Line Volunteer

Job Description = Answer the calls of people who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, isolation. Provide active listening and emotional support.

Skills =
·  At least 21 years old
·  Fluent in English and/or Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu or Punjabi
·  Willing to complete the 50-hour training course and on-going training sessions
·  Able to commit a minimum of 12 hours per month for one year
·  Caring and non-judgmental listener

Skills to Learn =
·  Active listening
·  Crisis and suicide intervention
·  Deal with people from diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities and from the LGBT community

Time = 12 hours per month for one year

Location = Brampton
