Brampton - Husbands and wives usually gain and lose weight together.  In fact, men and women tend to marry spouses of similar body type and body fat level.  As the years go by, partners' weights tend to go up and down together.

But what if one person wants to improve eating and exercising habits?  Will the husband sabotage the wife or will the wife continue to prepare high-fat meals they've always loved?  Neither, according to a study.  If one spouse makes a positive change, the other follows suit.  Her are some ways to support one another.

Eat breakfast together:  Mornings can be hectic for busy couples, but taking just 15 minutes to eat breakfast can have a significant impact on weight.

Avoid snacking together:  Encourage each other to take a minute and really consider whether or not it's really hunger driving you to the kitchen.  Deliberately distracting the mind for 10 minutes can help differentiate between a craving and true hunger.

Prepackage leftovers:  Placing meal potions on the plates and immediately putting away the leftovers before eating helps reduce the likelihood of overeating.  Taking meals in another room and leaving prepared dishes in the kitchen also helps.

Walk it off:  Walking with a partner usually means longer distances.  Aiming for about 3.5 miles an hour, walkers' breathing should still allow for periodic conversation.  If you've got breath enough to sing, it's time to pick up the pace!

We always hear about how important it is for women to eat certain foods containing certain nutrients.  What about men?

Foods Recommended for Men:  Fruits and vegetables, Fiber, Folate (dark leafy greens & orange juice), nuts (walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts), fish, water, red wine (improves blood flow), coffee (reasonable amounts), milk.
