Ottawa - June 29, 2006: The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced today that the CRA's dedicated, toll-free GST/HST rate reduction hotline will be available Saturday, July 1, 2006, and Monday, July 3, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Businesses and consumers can call 1-866-959-7797 (1-866-959-7798 in French) for GST/HST rate reduction information. Regular toll-free GST/HST hotline service available from 8:15 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (local time), Monday to Friday will resume on July 4, 2006.

Information for individuals and businesses on the implementation of the GST/HST rate reduction, including transitional rules, information sheets, questions and answers, and specific information on selected topics such as allowances and reimbursements, rules for layaway items and equal billing plans, long-term leases, and exceptions that apply to new housing.
Updated GST/HST forms and guides for completing GST/HST are currently available in electronic format on the CRA Web site. The majority of the paper versions of the forms and guides will be available starting June 30, 2006.
The CRA is also developing point-of-sale replacement GST and HST stickers for businesses. These stickers, and paper copy of GST/HST forms and guides can be ordered, starting June 30, 2006, from the CRA Web site or by phone at 1-800-959-2221 (1-800-959-3376 in French).
The CRA will continue to provide the most current, updated GST/HST rate reduction information for individuals and businesses on the CRA Web site at www.cra.gc.ca.
