The Region of Peel delivers a wide range of programs and services to more than one million citizens every day. This includes ambulance services, public health, long-term care, child care, waste collection, recycling and disposal, water and wastewater services, Regional road construction and maintenance, social assistance and affordable rental housing. Regional Headquarters are located at 10 Peel Centre Dr., Brampton, ON. Phone Number: 905-791-7800. "The increased use of reflective taping on the sides and back of the ambulance makes them easier to see whether paramedics are driving through intersections or stopped at a scene," says Peter Dundas, Director of Peel Regional Paramedic Services.
Ambulances with the new look will be phased in to replace existing ones as they are purchased over the next three years. Nine updated ambulances will be out on the roads in May with an additional 14 being released by the end of the year. The annual budget accounts for new ambulances and the exterior markings that are applied to them.
Developed by an advisory committee of paramedics, Joint Health and Safety Committee members and communication services staff, the ambulance follows the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care standards and guidelines for exterior markings.
"The greater visibility of the ambulances may also help residents move their vehicles to the right side of the road when an ambulance with lights and sirens on is approaching," says Marolyn Morrison, Town of Caledon Mayor and vice-chair of the Emergency Protective Services Committee.
Ontario legislation also requires residents to move over one lane if they see an emergency vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.
