Peel - The 2008 Spring Seatbelt Campaign took place from April 16th through April 27th. During this time period, officers from Peel Police Traffic Services, as well as officers from all operational police divisions within Peel, focused their traffic enforcement efforts on drivers and passengers that failed to "buckle-up".

During this years Spring campaign, officers issued a total of 2539 offence notices. The number of tickets issued this year is slightly higher than the five year campaign average of 2390.

In general, officers reported a seatbelt compliance rate of approximately 94%; however, it is clear that some drivers and passengers fail to understand the dangers associated with failing to buckle-up.

Inspector Pegrum, the officer in charge of Traffic Services, had the following comment after this recent campaign; "Despite an overall compliance rate of 94%, statistics show us that some 37% of drivers and passengers killed in motor vehicle collisions were not wearing their seatbelts. It is clear that continued enforcement and education in this area can greatly improve road safety".
