SIU Investigates Incident in Brampton

Toronto - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is presently probing an incident that occurred between a Peel Regional Police Officer and a 28-year-old man today in Brampton.

At 12:35 p.m., officers of the Peel Regional Police attended a call on Red Maple Dr. in Brampton. An officer arrived on the scene and located a man who was armed with a knife. The man was using the knife to harm himself. The officer discharged his Taser and the man collapsed to the ground. The man was transported to hospital where he was admitted.

The SIU has assigned six investigators and four forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident.

The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed the interaction between the officer and the man with the knife to contact the Unit at 416-622-1957 or 1-800-787-8529 extension No. 1957.
