Brampton - May is Museum Month, and the Peel Heritage Complex (PHC) has several activities lined up to recognize this province-wide celebration, including free general admission and free Sunday afternoon tours throughout May.
"Every Sunday in May, visitors can take advantage of a free tour of museum exhibitions starting at 2 p.m. in the lobby," says Diane Allengame at the PHC. "We have hands on activities for kids in the Arctic Zoo and archaeology exhibits and displays about Peel's early roots showcasing the rich history of First Nations, settlement and trades."
Among the activities featured at the museum is Caring for Treasures, a presentation on caring for personal heirlooms and documents. Learn how to preserve and maintain personal archival collections at this free talk on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. Call the PHC to reserve a seat as space is limited.
In addition, the PHC website will feature the Mystery Artefact contest. Every Monday in May, check www.peelheritagecomplex.org to view an image of a mystery artefact. The PHC will collect responses and those with the most correct answers will be entered into a draw to win a free PHC pass for one year.
The PHC is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. The Complex is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission fees are $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students; and $7 for families.
The PHC is made up of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage.
