Peel students say 'yes I can'
at Summer Camp I Can

Peel board offers summer
learning opportunities

Peel - Students will improve their reading, writing and overall learning skills at Summer Camp I Can, a four-week camp offered by the Peel District School Board from July 2 to 31. Camp I Can is run by Peel board teachers and is open to grade 7 to 10 students from all Peel board public schools and most secondary schools.

Grade 7 and 8 students will experience creative and diverse approaches to learning, such as field trips, guest speakers, technology, real-life experiences and in-class group work, in a camp atmosphere. The program is designed to achieve Ontario Curriculum expectations and to promote life-long learning.

Grade 9 and 10 students are offered a hands-on credit completion program that provides them with the opportunity to earn a full credit while improving their learning skills.

"Camp I Can is an exciting way for students to further enhance their literacy and numeracy skills during the summer through fun, hands-on instructional strategies," says Chris Vanellis, program manager for Camp I Can. "These programs support student success because they are designed to give students extra tools to meet their learning potential."

Parents of grades 7 and 8 students should contact their child's guidance counsellor or principal for further details on enrolment. For grade 9 and 10 students, not all secondary schools will run this program. Contact your teen's guidance counsellor or principal to inquire about their plans to run it. For both programs, registration is limited.

There is a $40 registration fee for students in grade 7 and 8 and a $10 registration fee for students in grade 9 and 10. This fee includes field trip costs, materials and daily snacks. Busing will also be provided for students. The location of camp sites will be provided on the registration forms.
