Brampton - Hassan Yussuff, Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress will be in Mississauga and Brampton on Monday, April 28, for local ceremonies organized by the Brampton-Mississauga and District Labour Council to mark the National Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job.

Yussuff will take part in ceremonies planned for 9:00 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Mississauga Civic Centre. He then travels to Brampton City Hall for ceremonies that get under way at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Square Cenotaph.

Yussuff will be available to media immediately after each Day of Mourning ceremony.

Nearly a thousand - 976 - Canadians died as a result of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses in 2006, the second-highest number on record, despite Canada's reputation for having some of the strongest workplace health and safety laws. Yussuff says it's time those laws were properly enforced.

"Four lives lost every workday is four lost lives too many. Lives are not saved when governments simply adopt legislation then look the other way," he says.
