Brampton - The Region of Peel is "bringing green closer to home" with the return of the Green Peel Expo on Saturday, May 3 at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre.


Brampton - The Region of Peel is "bringing green closer to home" with the return of the Green Peel Expo on Saturday, May 3 at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre. 

Visitors will learn about conserving natural resources, saving money and lessening their impact on the environment. This family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features a variety of exhibitors and workshops to help Peel residents live sustainably.

"Water, energy conservation and the protection of our environment are important to the Region of Peel," said Emil Kolb, Regional Chair. "We encourage all Peel residents to join us and learn how to make your home more efficient, as well as get some great conservation ideas to help you go green all year round."

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops and speak to local eco-experts on topics including:

•       understanding climate change and what we can do about it with Shelley Tanaka, author of Climate Change,

•       vegetable gardening for your backyard or balcony,

•       water and energy efficiency in your home,

•       the newest in alternative vehicles and efficient home appliances,

•       environmentally friendly products and services for your home.

"Whether you want to understand the science behind climate change or learn how to create a beautiful water efficient lawn and garden, there is something for everyone at this year's show," said Elaine Moore, Regional Councillor and Chair of Environment,

Transportation and Planning Services Committee. "Children of all ages are welcome to join in the festivities by getting their face painted, planting a tree seedling to take home or taking part in hands-on learning with the Sciensational Sssnakes."

Admission to the Green Peel Expo is $2 per person or free with the donation of a non-perishable food item, and free for children 12 and under. Visitors will receive giveaways and be entered to win raffle prizes. The Mississauga Valley Community Centre is located at 1275 Mississauga Valley Blvd. (Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road) in Mississauga.
